The academic programme equips students with a broad understanding of fundamental economic principles, theories and concepts and the ability to use the tools of economic reasoning to explain, analyse and resolve economic issues, and evaluate policy decisions. Students will also acquire skills that enable them to be lifelong learners and contributing members of their communities, including critical thinking, clear communication and thoughtful inquiry.

Using a varied teaching and learning approaches such as small group consultation, cooperative learning and concept mapping, the programme encourages students to think critically, organise and communicate economic ideas and arguments in a clear, logical and appropriate manner.

This course will also help students achieve a deeper understanding of key economic concerns in Singapore, Asia and the world. In addition, students at Pioneer Junior College are equipped with skills ranging from question analysis, essay writing, data interpretation and SQ3R. This will help them to develop answers that show good analytical skills and demonstrate the ability to form well explained evaluative judgements.
