Economics Department Shanghai and Suzhou Educational Trip

To allow our students to have a better understanding of the economics, history and culture of China, the Economics Department organized an educational trip to Shanghai and Suzhou from 5th to 11 December 2011. The trip also served to cultivate the entrepreneur mindset in students and allow them to identify economic opportunities in China.

During the course of the trip, our students were organized into groups and tasked to come up with a business plan. They were taken to different locations to observe the business models of various start-ups. After which, they were required to apply their economic concepts to develop their own products and business plans. They also had the privilege to visit and hear from the founders of two successful local enterprises in China – S point and Y plus. Overall, it was a fruitful trip and our students agreed that they came back with a better understanding of Economics and China.
