Student Council Twinning Trip to Shanghai Guang Ming High School 2011

The 12th Student Council embarked on a Twinning Trip to Shanghai Guang Ming High School from 7 to 14 December 2011. We had the valuable opportunity of having the GMHS Student Councillors as their buddies. The personal and direct interaction with their student councillor buddies enabled both sides to learn more about the roles and responsibilities as well as areas of work of the respective Student Councils. Our hospitable hosts also organised Chinese calligraphy, stamp carving and Peiking opera lessons, offering us a glimpse into the rich Chinese culture and history. In return, the 12th SC gamely put up a performance skit to showcase Singapore’s interesting history to our Chinese hosts on our last day at Guang Ming. Precious friendships were forged with the Chinese buddies on this trip, as witnessed from the reluctance of both sides to part ways on our last day. This trip certainly offered many of us a fresh perspective of China, and taught us to better appreciate the little things in life we often take for granted.
