Fight against Cancer: Relay for Life
On 10-11 March 2018, 155 teachers and students from the college participated in the Relay for Life organised by the Singapore Cancer Society (SCS). Relay For Life is a global movement founded in May 1985 by the American Cancer Society in Tacoma, Washington. Over the years, it has grown into a worldwide phenomenon and this event is taking place for the second time in Singapore. SCS – TalkMed Relay for Life (RFL) gives everyone a chance to celebrate the lives of cancer survivors and caregivers; remember loved ones lost to cancer; and fight back by raising awareness and funds to support the work of the SCS. It is an inspiring overnight event that rallies the community to fight against cancer.

The event was held at the Singapore Sports Hub and the Guest-of-Honour was President Mdm Halimah Yacob. Upon arrival at the Sports Hub, one can immediately sense the vibrant atmosphere and the strong support of the community for RFL. Teams of participants turned up in various costumes such as the Star Wars troopers to give support to the cancer survivors and caregivers. One of the participating teams for the 100km relay was Team PJC. The team of students started walking after President Mdm Halimah Yacob flagged off at 1830hrs, and completed the course at 0315hrs in second place. Despite having to walk through the night, the students were high-spirited and displayed a strong sense of commitment to the cause they have pledged themselves to. It was indeed a walk that symbolised the long and arduous journey of cancer survivors and how the fight against cancer has to continue.
